The world, from orbit: introducing the 3D Globe

There's a new way to explore the World Heritage List: a fully interactive 3D globe, now live under Globe in the menu.

Every one of the 1,200+ inscribed sites appears as a glowing beacon on a spinning Earth; amber for cultural, green for natural, and violet for mixed. Drag to rotate, scroll to zoom, and click any beacon to fly in for a closer look, complete with a photo, a description, and a link to the full site details. Looking for something specific? The search box will take you straight there.

Keep an eye out for the golden pillar of light, that's the Site of the Week, marked so you can spot it from anywhere on the planet.

And if you're fond of the classic flat map, don't worry: it hasn't gone anywhere. You'll find it via the List / Map / Globe toggle on the Sites page, or the Flat map button in the globe's corner.

Happy exploring!
